- Help guide the student through the process of self-assessment to determine what his/her college goals are.
- Help the student’s parents determine what their goals are for their son/daughter.
- Provide an overview of the college application process.
FALL of JUNIOR YEAR: Academics & Extracurriculars
- Review and refine high school coursework plans to best position the student for admission to the college of his/her choice.
- Review and recommend extracurricular activities to strengthen the student’s profile and to allow the student to tell his/her story in the most compelling way possible.
- Review and recommend summer activities and programs to boost the student’s profile.
- Help the student begin to gather information, organize it, and write a resume.
- Direct the student through the schedule of college preview events in Dallas and college representative visits to his/her school.
SPRING of JUNIOR YEAR: Test Prep
- Review testing schedules, arrange for test prep, and monitor registration.
SPRING of JUNIOR YEAR: College Search
- Help the student and his/her family develop a list of college options based on the student's needs, desires, and best fit.
- Research colleges, including their programs, faculty, and courses in the student’s interest areas, to help refine the student’s college list.
- Plan and prepare for college visits.
- Supervise and manage the student’s communications with college representatives.
SPRING of JUNIOR YEAR: Preparing to Write
- Develop a guided reading plan for the student to prepare him/her to write college application essays.
- Work with the student to develop and refine writing skills.
- Help the student find his/her voice and develop topics for essays.
SUMMER leading into SENIOR YEAR: Write
- Draft personal statements and essays.
- Create academic resume.
FALL of SENIOR YEAR: Applications
- Keep the student on task to complete all components of the college application process - testing, campus visits, admissions interviews, application deadlines, and the like.
- Help direct decisions regarding Early Decision and/or Early Action.
- Advise the student on how to present extracurricular activities, community service, internships, and work experience to strengthen his/her candidacy.
- Help the students and family search and apply for financial aid & scholarships.
- Provide guidance on the selection of teachers and other recommenders for letters of recommendation.
- Brainstorm and help edit personal statements and essays.
- Help prepare for college interviews.
- Oversee the process of completing and submitting applications.
FALL/SPRING of SENIOR YEAR: Decisions
- Evaluate offers of admission to help the student select the college that best fits his/her goals.
